Distingue-se ent\u00e3o como curso de excel\u00eancia na p\u00f3s-gradua\u00e7\u00e3o em Hist\u00f3ria no pa\u00eds, pela revis\u00e3o de paradigmas interpretativos \u2013 por debate historiogr\u00e1fico e reflex\u00e3o te\u00f3rica \u2013 e valoriza\u00e7\u00e3o da pesquisa com fontes prim\u00e1rias e suas respectivas metodologias, valendo-se da proximidade dos fundos documentais no Rio de Janeiro. O n\u00facleo criado em 1998 acolhe pesquisas situadas entre os s\u00e9culos XV e XIX, sobretudo no per\u00edodo convencionalmente chamado de \u00c9poca Moderna, a partir de problemas historiogr\u00e1ficos espec\u00edficos. Essa temporalidade segue novas periodiza\u00e7\u00f5es a depender dos objetos de estudo, pois a compreens\u00e3o dos fen\u00f4menos hist\u00f3ricos pode impor a remiss\u00e3o a processos anteriores ou seguintes.<\/p><p>Os Tempos Modernos compreendem quest\u00f5es relacionadas \u00e0s fronteiras da Europa e conex\u00f5es com diferentes povos e espa\u00e7os na Am\u00e9rica, \u00c1frica e \u00c1sia. As v\u00e1rias escalas de abordagem \u2013 dos estudos de caso \u00e0 an\u00e1lise de processos \u2013 consideram a pluralidade \u00e9tnica e diversidade das organiza\u00e7\u00f5es pol\u00edticas, sociais e culturais. As investiga\u00e7\u00f5es de docentes e discentes inovam e consolidam temas situados no per\u00edodo, contribuindo para formar quadros universit\u00e1rios em v\u00e1rias regi\u00f5es do pa\u00eds.<\/p><p>Por um lado, destacam-se os conflitos surgidos na autoridade pol\u00edtica e religiosa nos territ\u00f3rios ultramarinos; os modos de comunica\u00e7\u00e3o e negocia\u00e7\u00e3o pol\u00edtica e o desenvolvimento de categorias teol\u00f3gico-pol\u00edticas e jur\u00eddicas visando fundamentar o poder. Os quatro projetos Pronex (Faperj) coordenados por Ronaldo Vainfas aumentaram as possibilidades de pesquisa, eventos e publica\u00e7\u00f5es. O grupo Cia. das \u00cdndias mant\u00e9m uma importante parceria com o N\u00facleo de Estudos Inquisitoriais (NEI) sediado na FFP-UERJ e apoia o grupo Metamorphose, sobre interpreta\u00e7\u00e3o e materialidade de manuscritos e impressos, sediado na UnB.<\/p><p>O grupo converge seus interesses de pesquisa em tr\u00eas linhas, que se caracterizam pela an\u00e1lise de diferentes tipos de fontes produzidas no per\u00edodo e v\u00e1rias orienta\u00e7\u00f5es te\u00f3rico-metodol\u00f3gicas. Mas as linhas possuem pontos de contato entre si, facultando aos pesquisadores principais do n\u00facleo a inser\u00e7\u00e3o em mais de uma delas. Os recortes espa\u00e7o-temporais variam em fun\u00e7\u00e3o das problem\u00e1ticas contempladas, interesses e compet\u00eancias de pesquisadores e alunos. Entre as realiza\u00e7\u00f5es, destacam-se eventos nacionais e internacionais, como simp\u00f3sios tem\u00e1ticos, col\u00f3quios e minicursos em encontros de hist\u00f3ria, cursos lato-sensu, semin\u00e1rios de p\u00f3s-graduandos e graduandos, projetos digitais etc. Esses eventos resultam em v\u00e1rias protestantismo, o islamismo, as religiosidades da \u00c1frica negra e dos povos de origem na Am\u00e9rica e na \u00c1sia. Os conceitos de ra\u00e7a, etnia, g\u00eanero, religi\u00e3o, na\u00e7\u00e3o e mesti\u00e7agem cultural s\u00e3o discutidos por meio de estudos sobre marginalizados, escravizados e libertos, corpora\u00e7\u00f5es, irmandades, grupos e linhagens familiares, formas de piedade e de pensamento teol\u00f3gico, peregrina\u00e7\u00f5es, devo\u00e7\u00f5es, doutrinas e representa\u00e7\u00f5es, sem descurar dos aspectos institucionais. Destacam-se as pesquisas sobre as m\u00faltiplas dimens\u00f5es dos tribunais inquisitoriais ib\u00e9ricos e indiv\u00edduos e grupos da hierarquia clerical, congrega\u00e7\u00f5es e ordens regulares. As investiga\u00e7\u00f5es consideram os significados da cultura material, ritual e letrada, em di\u00e1logo com estudos antropol\u00f3gicos e das ci\u00eancias sociais.
