

Universidade Federal Fluminense’s Graduate Program in History (PPGH) was created in 1971, with the commencement of the Master’s course, and expanded in 1985 with the opening of the doctoral course.
Since 1998, its excellence has been recognized by the awarding of the highest score (seven) from the Ministry of Education and the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Level Personnel (CAPES).
Concentrating on the area of Social History, the Program has six thematic sectors – 1) Ancient History; 2) Medieval History; 3) Modern and Colonial History; 4) Contemporary History: Tradition and Modernity; 5) Contemporary History: Culture, Politics, and the Present Time; 6) Contemporary History: Critical Theory and Historical Knowledge. Each of these is divided into three lines of research: Power and Society; Culture and Society; Economy and Society.
