Ementa Esta disciplina procura discutir o papel das agências de africanos e afro-europeus nas relações entre a África e o mundo Atlântico entre os séculos XVIII e XX, incluindo o período colonial. Busca discutir também as dinâmicas de intermediação comercial, a formação de identidades ‘crioulas’, o papel do gênero na mediação cultural, e as condições de atuação desses intermediários durante a transição do tráfico de escravizados para o comércio dito "legítimo" e, posteriormente, para a administração colonial. Um eixo central do curso é a análise crítica do conceito de "agência" na historiografia africanista. Procurando fazer a crítica à interpretações que apenas enfatizam a participação africana no comércio atlântico sem considerar as assimetrias estruturais do capitalismo mercantil em expansão, o curso propõe uma abordagem dialética que examina como os intermediários operavam em contato com — e eram constrangidos por — estruturas expansão capitalistas que desafiavam lógicas locais ou regionais. OBJETIVOS Compreender dialeticamente o papel dos intermediários africanos e afro-europeus nas dinâmicas comerciais, políticas e culturais do mundo atlântico, articulando a análise de suas ações com as estruturas da expansão capitalista que de certa maneira condicionavam suas escolhas. Analisar criticamente os debates historiográficos sobre agência africana, identificando os limites das interpretações liberais e as contribuições das abordagens estruturalistas e marxistas. Compreender o papel destes grupos e indivíduos intermediários na mediação de como a lógica do capital atlântico penetrou nas sociedades africanas.
